RESOLVING J8 ERROR CODE ON XEROX 212 & 214 COPIERS
Tuesday, November 1st, 2011There are 2 versions of the Xerox 212 & 214 copiers:
Type 1 – those originally sold through US dealers ** cartridge part #: 113R180 or 113R181
Type 5 – those originally sold through Retail Outlet stores ** cartridge part #: 113R287
The “J8 error code” is a result of the machine wanting a different type cartridge other than what you just have installed.
This can be easily changed through the machine menu/diagnostics.
To set the machine up to accept the cartridge ‘Type’ which you want to use:
1 First, with the power off, remove the Copy Cartridge, then close the Door Transport.
2 To enter diagnostics: Hold down ‘ 0 ‘ while turning on the Power, the console will light up.
3 Press ‘Stop/Clear’, the lights will shut off, — will appear in the display
4 Wait 30 seconds for the optics to finish initializing before you enter the diagnostic code.
(this is extremely important since interrupting the optics initialization can result in terrible noises & other unpleasant symptoms)
5 After the optics complete initializing, enter “406″ followed by ‘Print’
6 Turn off the power and install the new / intended Copy Cartridge.
7 Turn on the machine. It will now accept the ‘type’ of cartridge which you have in the machine.
