3-D Printers

3-D PrintersAs the 3-D revolution has come to market with movies and television sets, it has also invaded the printer industry.  These 3-D printers are priced between $14K-$20K and are pretty cool making a CAD drawing come to life just like magic.  How this works is that fine powder consisting of plaster, corn starch and resins are built layer by layer, bonded by an adhesive from the inkjet print head, until the final physical model is built.  There is no paper involved.

3-D printing is not a joke and printer companies believe the time is right for this technology to become mainstream.   Hewlett-Packard, well-known for its home PCs and ink printers, sees a huge potential customer base of commercial and industrial designers who are already creating 3-D models on their computers. There HP recently partnered with a smaller company, Minneapolis-based Stratasys, to sell commercial 3-D printers under the HP brand.

Brother MFC-7840W Printer

Brother MFC-7840w printerThe Brother MFC-7840W is a pretty good MFC black and white laser printer.  It weighs about 25lbs and small enough for those tight home office spaces, taking about a 18”X17” footprint.  In addition to its printing capability, the printer includes fax, scanner and copier functions.  You can find some good deals online costing between $250-300.

The specs:

  1. 23 PPM
  2. Black monochrome toner
  3. 2400 x 600 dpi
  4. Letter, legal paper sizes
  5. 32MB memory
  6. Network ready
  7. 33.6 Kbps fax speed

Setting up the printer is a snap.  Plug it in, load the toner cartridge, attach a phone line and follow the prompts and you are up and running.  The wireless network is a big plus when you are running a small home office network.  One feature the printer does not include is double sided printing.  It takes either the high yield TN360 toner or the lower yield TN330.  For the money difference, my suggestion is to purchase the TN360 toner cartridge.

In conclusion, if you don’t need color prints, and you need a high-quality and a fast monochrome printer for a home or small office, this is a great choice. It connects to networks wirelessly and with an automatic document feeder it’ll get work done quickly and efficiently.

Canon PIXMA MP640 Printer

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

canon-pixma-mp640Canon’s new printer dubbed the PIXMA MP640 packs a punch at a price and features that you will love for under $200.  Bottom line is it’s a MFD printer, a multi-function device, with a high-resolution scanner and copier.  It has both a Wi-Fi and Ethernet for wireless and wired network printing.  The printer also includes a 3.0″ LCD display and automatic duplex(double sided) printing and prints with a color resolution of 9600 x 2400 dpi and produces 2400 dpi scans with 48-bit color depth.  Not bad. The printer has a 150-Sheet Automatic Document Feeder and can print a 4″ x 6″ Borderless Photo in about 20 seconds.  And for you music and movie fans, it prints on coated CDs and DVDs.

As to the printing side, the printer utilizes an Auto Photo Fix II feature to help users correct many common photo errors, such as underexposed images and to enhance photos from either a sunny beach, wedding or a child’s graduation taking place in a dark auditorium.  It also has settings to adjust the photos such as Multi-Zone Exposure Correction, improvements in overall face detection, scene analysis, plus brightness and saturation correction.

It uses Canon’s five separate ink cartridge system consisting of a pigmented black for wonderfully dark text and dye-based Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black used to produce great photos.  The single ink tanks reduce waste and are economical because you replace only the individual cartridge that has run out.  In addition, our cloned Canon MP640 ink cartridges are a compatible replacement for the original saving you about 40% off the original brand.  The use of our compatible ink for the Canon PIXMA MP640 does not void your printer’s warranty.  In addition, our compatible ink cartridges include reset chips on them which will show the correct ink levels in your Canon printer.
